Watch Our Laser Cutting & Sheet Metal Production in Action

At MSTFAB, fiber laser cutting is the first critical step in many sheet metal manufacturing routes. The cutting plan is reviewed against the material grade, thickness, feature geometry, drawing tolerances and downstream operations. The video shows cutting, nesting and edge-condition control before parts move to bending or inspection.

For a short overview of the wider fabrication route, watch our laser cutting, CNC bending and welding workflow video.

Buyer Confidence

What professional buyers need from a laser cutting supplier.

A low cutting price is not enough when panels must bend, weld, finish and assemble correctly. Our review focuses on manufacturability, edge condition, dimensional control and the downstream process.

Drawing-based reviewHole spacing, bend lines, tabs, slots and critical surfaces are checked before production.
Material and thickness matchCutting parameters are selected around material grade, thickness and finish expectations.
Inspection points definedFirst-article checks and dimensional inspection can be documented when required.
Export packing consideredFlat blanks, cosmetic panels and assemblies are packed for overseas handling, not only factory storage.

Capabilities Matrix

What we control before your parts move downstream.

Material, geometry, cut quality and production requirements are confirmed from your released drawings.

01 / Project inputs

Start with the right material and files.

MaterialsMild steel, stainless, aluminum and drawing-approved galvanized sheet.
Part geometryPanels, brackets, covers and chassis blanks.
Drawing filesDXF, DWG, STEP or PDF with critical dimensions marked.
02 / Cutting control

Review the features that drive fit.

DFM reviewSmall holes, narrow slots, bend reliefs and tab locations.
Cut qualityEdge condition and repeatability matched to the next process.
InspectionFirst-article checks for drawing-defined CTQs.
03 / Production delivery

Plan beyond the laser cutter.

Next operationsBending, hardware and welding when specified; selected finishing processes may be completed by qualified long-term partners under the approved order scope.
Production scalePrototype validation through repeat batch manufacturing.
Export packingProtection selected for finish, weight and handling risk.

Factory Control

Built for buyers who need repeatable cut parts, not a nice sample only.

MSTFAB connects laser cutting with fabrication, inspection and packing. That means your flat parts are reviewed as part of the complete manufacturing route, from blank to finished assembly.

CAD/CAM nesting

Material utilization and feature stability reviewed before cutting.

Fixture-aware thinking

Critical blanks are planned around later bending, welding and hardware insertion.

Surface protection

Cosmetic panels are handled with finish and packing risk in mind.

Export communication

English RFQ support, drawings review and documentation for overseas buyers.

Quality Assurance

Drawing-Specific Quality Controls

One tolerance or inspection plan does not fit every part. Acceptance criteria are confirmed based on the drawing, material, geometry and downstream use before production.

Control pointWhat MSTFAB confirmsWhy it matters
Dimensional acceptanceDrawing-specific tolerances and inspection pointsKeeps the cut blank aligned with later bending, hardware installation and assembly.
Material traceabilityMaterial certificates and lot records when specifiedLinks the approved material grade to the order and inspection record.
Edge conditionBurr, dross and post-cut deburring requirementsDefines the edge condition needed for forming, welding or finishing.
First-article inspectionDrawing-defined critical dimensions when specifiedConfirms important features before repeat production.
Export packingPart separation, corrosion protection and crate or carton planReduces scratching, moisture exposure and handling damage in transit.

Process

A practical cutting workflow for OEM sheet metal projects.

The goal is not only to cut the shape. The goal is to deliver parts that fit your assembly and arrive without avoidable quality surprises.

1

Drawing review

We check files, material grade, tolerance notes, bend lines and critical surface areas.

2

Cutting plan

CAD/CAM nesting, kerf allowance and cutting parameters are prepared for the production batch.

3

Inspection

First pieces and key dimensions are checked against the drawing before moving forward.

4

Next process

Parts move to deburring, bending, welding, finishing, assembly or export packing as required.

Buyer Questions

Sheet Metal Laser Cutting FAQ

Short answers for drawing packages, materials, downstream fabrication and realistic tolerance planning.

What drawings should I send for a laser cutting quote?

Send DXF, DWG, STEP/STP or PDF drawings along with the material grade, sheet thickness, quantity, finish requirements and any critical tolerances or cosmetic surfaces.

Can MSTFAB support laser cutting and later bending or welding?

Yes. MSTFAB reviews laser-cut blanks in the context of the approved manufacturing route, including deburring, bending, hardware insertion, welding, assembly and export packing. Selected finishing processes may be completed by qualified long-term partners when included in the order scope.

Which materials are commonly used for sheet metal laser cutting?

Common materials include mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum and galvanized steel. Final parameters depend on the grade, thickness, surface condition and downstream process.

Do you support overseas OEM buyers?

Yes. MSTFAB supports export programs for buyers in the United States, Australia, Europe and other markets with English communication, drawing review, inspection support and protective packing.

Can you provide prototype and batch production?

MSTFAB can support prototype validation and repeat production. The team confirms production feasibility, inspection points and packing requirements before quoting.

What tolerance can MSTFAB hold on laser-cut sheet metal parts?

There is no single universal tolerance. The achievable result depends on the material grade, thickness, feature size, part dimensions, edge condition and downstream operations. MSTFAB confirms drawing-specific acceptance criteria before quotation and first-article inspection.

How are laser cutting cost and lead time confirmed?

Material grade and thickness, nesting yield, cut length, piercing, quantity, deburring and downstream operations affect the quote. Lead time also depends on drawing approval, material availability and the agreed inspection and packing scope. Send the released drawing, batch quantity and delivery destination; MSTFAB confirms price and schedule for that RFQ rather than applying one rate or lead time to every part. For a combined route, review our sheet metal fabrication services.

Cut-part acceptance

Agree on the first blank before the batch.

An enclosure panel can look clean and still fail at the next operation. Before repeat cutting, agree which drawing features matter, how the first piece will be checked and what edge condition the next process needs.

The approved drawing and RFQ set the limits. There is no one-size-fits-all cutting tolerance or inspection package.
  1. 01
    Released drawing

Identify the approved revision, material grade, thickness and any holes or slots that control assembly fit.

  2. 02
    First-piece check

Agree whether critical openings, mounting holes and edges need measurements, fit photos or a recorded sample before repeat cutting.

  3. 03
    Next-process handoff

Specify burr and cosmetic limits, bend-relief needs, protection and labeling for forming, finishing or assembly.

Send Drawings for Quote

Attach one file, up to 10 MB (STEP/STP, DXF/DWG, PDF, ZIP, or an image). Include material, quantity, and finish details for an accurate quote.
