Custom Push Button Enclosure Shells for OEM Controls

MSTFAB fabricates empty metal housings around your released button layout, mounting method and service envelope. We control the sheet metal; your team controls the buttons, wiring, electronics and finished machine.

Straight answer

Small box, serious interface control.

A push button enclosure looks simple until a keyed switch will not seat, a cable gland meets a bend, or a crowded back panel blocks the contact body. The useful RFQ question is not just "What size box?" It is "What must fit on both sides of every panel?"

01

MSTFAB controls

Drawing review, sheet material, cutting, forming, joining, drawing-defined hardware, finish coordination, agreed inspection and packing.

02

The buyer controls

Button and switch selection, wiring, electrical design, safety function, machine integration, intended-use validation and the final equipment file.

03

The drawing connects them

Part numbers, cutouts, panel thickness, anti-rotation details, internal envelopes, mounting datums, sealing interfaces and revision status.

Supply boundary: MSTFAB is the international brand of Guangzhou Maisituo Sheet Metal Manufacturing Co., Ltd. We supply drawing-based fabricated mechanical parts and empty enclosure shells, not complete operator-control equipment. Final product certification remains with the buyer, OEM or responsible integrator unless an approved scope expressly states otherwise.

Configuration examples

Match the shell to the operator station.

One-button boxes, multi-control stations and guarded emergency-stop housings may share a product name, but they do not share the same depth, cutout, access or sealing needs.

Drawing review

Six interfaces to freeze before metal is cut.

Buttons are less forgiving than they look. A useful drawing controls the visible face, the hardware behind it and the space needed to assemble and service both.

Material and finish

Specify the environment, not a fashionable alloy.

Material choice follows exposure, cleaning, weight, stiffness, grounding strategy, finish and cost. "Outdoor" or "washdown" alone is not enough to select a grade or promise a completed rating.

MaterialUseful starting pointItems to confirm
Cold-rolled steelFormable, cost-conscious shells where a coated cosmetic surface is required.Coating system, edge protection, indoor exposure and grounding points.
Galvanized steelA zinc-coated steel option for corrosion-conscious cabinet and control-box programs.Cut-edge treatment, welding route, finish compatibility and cosmetic expectations.
Stainless steelCleaning, corrosion or uncoated appearance requirements defined by the project.Grade, surface direction, weld appearance, passivation need and chloride exposure.
AluminumWeight-sensitive housings and corrosion-conscious applications.Alloy, stiffness, joining, galvanic interfaces, finish and grounding method.

Selected finishing processes may be completed by qualified long-term partners. Color, texture, masking, cosmetic zones and acceptance samples should be recorded in the approved route. See the sheet metal surface treatment overview for common specification inputs.

Release to shipment

A practical production route buyers can audit.

Evidence should follow the risks on the drawing. A photograph of one attractive box is useful; a controlled revision, measured first article and accepted finish sample are more useful.

01

RFQ review

Confirm files, revision, scope, quantity, material, finish, hardware and destination.

02

DFM confirmation

Check cutouts, bends, rear envelopes, access, joining and critical datums.

03

Fabrication

Cut, form, join and install drawing-defined mechanical hardware under the released route.

04

First article

Record agreed critical dimensions, fit interfaces and finish evidence before repeat production.

05

Packing

Protect visible faces, loose parts and hardware for the approved delivery method.

Inspection depth depends on project risk and the approved control plan. The sheet metal quality and FAI guide explains how to request evidence without turning every drawing dimension into an expensive report.

RFQ checklist

Send enough information for a useful answer.

A complete drawing package reduces the email loop and lets manufacturing questions surface before the quote becomes a purchase order.

  • STEP or STP model and controlled 2D PDF
  • DXF or DWG when flat cut data is buyer controlled
  • Material, thickness and approved alternatives
  • Button and switch part numbers with cutout data
  • Finish, color, texture and cosmetic zones
  • Hardware, gasket and cable-entry requirements
  • Prototype and repeat-order quantities
  • Critical dimensions and inspection evidence
  • Packing method and delivery destination
  • Current drawing revision and approval contact

No sitewide MOQ, lead time or tolerance is promised for every enclosure. Those values depend on the released geometry, route and inspection scope. The quotation file guide shows what each file contributes.

Buyer FAQ

Questions worth settling before release.

These answers describe the normal commercial boundary. The approved quotation and drawing package still control the actual order.

What does MSTFAB supply for a push button enclosure project?

MSTFAB supplies drawing-based fabricated mechanical parts and empty enclosure shells. The quoted scope may include bodies, covers, cutouts, mounting features, hardware, finish coordination, inspection and packing. Push buttons, wiring, electronics and completed-machine integration remain outside the normal shell scope.

Which files should I send for quotation?

Send a STEP or STP model with a controlled 2D PDF drawing. DXF or DWG files are useful when you control flat cut data. Include the revision, material, thickness, finish, quantities, component cutout data, hardware, critical dimensions, inspection needs and delivery destination.

What cutout information is needed for buttons and switches?

Provide the component maker and part number, nominal cutout, tolerance, anti-rotation notch, panel-thickness range, behind-panel envelope and minimum spacing. A simple circle diameter is often not enough for keyed devices, guards or closely packed operator controls.

Can an empty shell be called IP or NEMA rated?

The shell can be fabricated with drawing-defined gasket lands, door geometry, cable-entry zones and hardware interfaces. The rating of the completed assembly depends on the installed devices, seals, entries, assembly method and required testing. Final equipment validation and certification remain with the buyer, OEM or responsible integrator.

Does MSTFAB publish one MOQ, lead time or tolerance for every enclosure?

No. Feasible quantity, lead time and tolerance depend on geometry, material, thickness, tooling, finishing route, hardware, inspection scope and order volume. They are confirmed against the released drawing and quotation for each project.

How are powder coating and other finishes handled?

The finish is defined by the approved specification, including color, texture, masking and cosmetic zones. Selected finishing processes may be completed by qualified long-term partners. The agreed route and acceptance criteria remain part of the controlled order scope.

Buyer-visible checks

Verify the push button enclosure before batch release.

For a push button enclosure, trust starts at the operator interface. Agree the critical checks against the released drawing, then confirm which records or photos your order needs.

01

Cutouts and clearance

Check the hole profile, anti-rotation details, centers and space behind the selected controls.

02

First-article fit

Review agreed dimensions, cover fit and mounting features before repeat production.

03

Finish and protection

Confirm visible surfaces, masking and packing against the approved specification.
