Lithium Battery Cabinet Cooling Interfaces for Sheet Metal Enclosures
MSTFAB manufactures the metal enclosure structure that allows battery cooling hardware to fit correctly. We fabricate cabinet shells, doors, mounting plates, fan and louver openings, AC or HEX cutouts, gland plates, drain features, gasket lands, welded frames, powder coating masks and export packaging from buyer-approved drawings.
We do not manufacture battery cells, BMS, chillers, HVAC units, heat exchangers, liquid cold plates, coolant plumbing, fire suppression systems or complete battery energy storage products. Those electrical and thermal systems remain buyer-specified.

What This Cooling Article Means for MSTFAB
This page is written for OEM buyers who already have a battery thermal design and need a reliable sheet metal cabinet manufacturer to build the mechanical enclosure around it. MSTFAB supports the enclosure-side interfaces for air cooling, AC units, air-to-air heat exchangers and liquid cooling routes, but final cooling performance, airflow validation, coolant design, battery safety, UL/IEC certification and thermal runaway strategy are controlled by the buyer’s engineering team.
Cooling-Ready Battery Cabinet Fabrication Scope
Airflow Openings
Laser-cut or punched louvers, fan holes, filter frames, perforated doors, inlet and outlet paths, rain shields and insect-screen interfaces.
AC / HEX Mounting
Flat mounting surfaces, gasket lands, bolt patterns, drain holes, reinforcement ribs and service clearances for buyer-selected cooling units.
Liquid Cooling Interfaces
Bulkhead plates, hose routing windows, gland plates, reinforcement brackets and leak-tray provisions based on buyer-approved drawings.
Sealing and Drainage
Door flatness, gasket compression surfaces, roof slopes, condensate drain points and protected cut edges for outdoor cabinet shells.
Welded Structure
Cabinet frames, heavy bases, rail supports, hinge reinforcements and lifting or pallet features designed for loaded battery modules.
Finish and Packaging
Powder coating, masking, thread protection, foam separation, corner guards and export packaging so the shell arrives ready for integration.

Cooling Method vs Sheet Metal Responsibility
The cooling method is chosen by the battery system designer. MSTFAB’s job is to make sure the cabinet metalwork gives that cooling method the correct mechanical space, cutout accuracy, sealing surface and service access.
| Cooling Method | Buyer-Controlled System | MSTFAB Sheet Metal Scope | RFQ Details to Send |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural ventilation | Thermal model, dust and water ingress requirements, filter specification. | Louver panels, rain shields, punched openings, filter frames and corrosion-resistant coating. | Airflow direction, louver area, IP target, filter size, material and finish. |
| Forced air fans | Fan model, airflow rate, electrical wiring, controls and noise limits. | Fan cutouts, grille patterns, reinforcing plates, screw bosses, cable entry holes and service panels. | Fan drawing, bolt pattern, filter frame, wire entry and maintenance access. |
| AC or air-to-air HEX | Cooling capacity, controller, condensate strategy and thermal validation. | Unit cutout, gasket land, mounting studs, drain hole, flatness control and powder coating mask. | Cooling unit drawing, gasket width, drain location, weight and service clearance. |
| Liquid cooling | Cold plates, chiller, pump, coolant, hoses, leak detection and system approval. | Bulkhead plates, hose pass-throughs, gland plates, tray brackets, stiffeners and removable covers. | Pipe route, fitting envelope, tray location, access door and leak sensor clearance. |
| Thermal safety features | Battery chemistry, BMS logic, fire strategy, UL 9540A or other approval. | Vent panel cutouts, replaceable roof panels, reinforced seams and serviceable fastener layouts. | Approved vent panel drawing, fastener type, gasket and replacement access. |

Airflow, Louvers and Fan Panel Manufacturing
For forced-air battery cabinets, the enclosure must support inlet and outlet paths without weakening the door, creating burrs, trapping water or blocking filters. MSTFAB manufactures punched and laser-cut panels with controlled edge quality, repeatable hole patterns and coating coverage for outdoor service.
- Ventilation area: send the required free-air area, filter size and airflow direction instead of only a rough sketch.
- Water protection: define whether the louver needs rain shielding, drip lips, internal baffles or insect screens.
- Door stiffness: large fan openings may need ribs, folded returns or reinforcement plates to prevent vibration.
- Finish protection: punched edges must be deburred and coated so corrosion does not begin around airflow openings.

AC, HEX and Liquid Cooling Interface Details
When the battery system uses AC, an air-to-air heat exchanger or liquid cooling, the cabinet shell still controls many practical risks: mounting flatness, gasket compression, drain routing, service clearance, cable entry and hose pass-through protection. These are mechanical enclosure details, not a claim that MSTFAB supplies the thermal system itself.
Mounting Cutout Accuracy
Cooling unit openings are laser cut from the approved drawing so the gasket land, screw pattern and service panel fit correctly.
Condensate and Drain Features
Drain holes, sloped lips and protected edges can be fabricated into the shell, while drain performance remains part of the system design.
Bulkhead and Hose Pass-Throughs
For liquid cooling routes, MSTFAB can fabricate gland plates, brackets and pass-through windows. The coolant loop, fittings and leak detection are buyer-defined.

Outdoor Sealing, Gaskets and Coating Controls
Cooling cutouts should not destroy the outdoor protection of the cabinet shell. MSTFAB controls sheet metal flatness, weld cleanup, door alignment, gasket surfaces, coating masks and protected hardware threads so the buyer’s cooling equipment can be installed after fabrication.
- Gasket land width: provide the required compression area around doors, AC units, HEX panels and service covers.
- Coating masks: define grounding points, threaded inserts, studs, heat-transfer contact areas and bare-metal zones before powder coating.
- Cabinet base strength: heavy battery systems need reinforced bases, lifting points and pallet features designed into the shell.
- Inspection: ask for dimensional checks around cutouts, door diagonals, flatness, coating thickness and critical mounting points.
