Telecom cabinet RFQ
“42U” describes vertical rack capacity, not a complete cabinet. A quote still needs rail geometry, equipment depth, load paths, door swing, airflow, cable entry and service access.

Freeze the Rack Interface Before the Outer Shell
Provide the rail profile, mounting-hole pattern, front-to-rear rail range, U numbering direction and the datum used to locate installed equipment. State whether rails must move without blocking side members, cable managers or door hardware.
Equipment envelope
List deepest equipment, connector projection, cable bend space and required front and rear service clearance.
Load path
Identify static equipment load, transport condition, floor or plinth mounting, lifting points and any anchoring interface.
Airflow
Mark intake, exhaust, fan or heat-exchanger interfaces, perforation zones and areas that must remain sealed.
Cable entry
Define top, bottom or side entry, gland-plate dimensions, segregation rules and removable service panels.

Buyer Trust Table
| Control point | Evidence | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Rail geometry | Drawing dimensions and first-article measurements | Equipment mounts without forcing, slot filing or field rework |
| Door and panel fit | Gap, swing and latch checks on the assembled shell | Service access remains usable after finishing and assembly |
| Load and mounting interfaces | Buyer-approved structure and stated inspection scope | Base, plinth and lifting features match the installation plan |
| Export packing | Support method, removable-part list and packing photos | Rails and frame geometry are protected during transport |

Make the RFQ Easy to Price and Hard to Misread
- Send STEP files and controlled 2D drawings with matching revisions.
- Identify purchased hardware by specification or approved equivalent rules.
- Mark cosmetic surfaces, coating, masking and grounding contact zones.
- Provide the internal layout or keep-out model used for clearance review.
- State first-article dimensions, assembly checks and required records.
- Describe shipment as assembled, partly assembled or flat-packed.
MSTFAB supports custom sheet metal cabinet shells and mechanical assemblies from buyer-controlled drawings. Active electronics, thermal equipment, cabling and final system validation are outside the normal empty-shell scope unless explicitly included.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 42U enough information for quotation?
No. It does not define depth, rail adjustment, doors, airflow, load, cable entry, base or finish.
Who should specify equipment clearances?
The buyer should provide the equipment and connector envelope. The fabricator can review it against bend, hardware and assembly access.
Should the cabinet ship assembled?
It depends on freight, site labor and geometry risk. State the preferred condition and ask the supplier to identify any transport supports or assembly checks.
Review the Cabinet Envelope Before Quotation
Send the rail drawing, equipment layout, load information and service-access requirements for a fabrication-focused DFM review.
