EV charger enclosure shell fabrication
We Build the Metal Shell – You Build the Charger
MSTFAB is a custom sheet metal fabrication shop. We build the empty metal shell, not the finished EV charger. Your team designs and installs the charging electronics. We fabricate the cabinet body, doors, mounting plates, gland plates, brackets, louvers, hardware interfaces, finish and export packaging that help those internals survive outdoor service.
Short answer for OEM buyers: MSTFAB manufactures build-to-print EV charger enclosure shells and sheet metal parts from your drawings. We do not supply the completed charging station.
Our scope: sheet metal enclosure only
- Cabinet shell, pedestal body and structural frame
- Doors, covers, bezels, gland plates and mounting plates
- Louvers, rain lips, gasket channels and cable-entry cutouts
- Welded brackets, hinges, studs, PEM hardware and grounding points
- Powder coating, stainless finish, inspection and export packing
Not our scope: finished charger system
- No power modules or charging modules
- No BMS, PCB, payment terminal or software
- No wiring harnesses, plugs, cables or electrical integration
- No certification of a completed EV charging station
- No operation-ready charger assembly

That distinction matters. Outdoor EV charger enclosure shells have a harder job than many sourcing teams expect. The metalwork has to protect buyer-installed electrical equipment from rain, dust, UV exposure, heat, condensation, aggressive cable pulling, road dust, public abuse, scratches, corrosion and long-term outdoor service.
A low-cost outdoor enclosure shell that leaks, traps heat, rusts, scratches easily or forces wiring rework is not cheap. It is a warranty problem wearing powder coating.
As a specialist custom sheet metal fabricator for EV charging station enclosure shells, MSTFAB focuses on structural DFM, repeatable fabrication and export-ready surface protection. An IP target or NEMA target is not just a label on a drawing. It has to be designed into the metal shell.
Outdoor Sealing: Why Gaskets Cannot Save Twisted Doors
Many buyers request IP54, IP55, IP65 or NEMA-style outdoor protection. That is reasonable. But an outdoor enclosure shell does not become protected just because someone writes a rating on the drawing.
A gasket cannot save a twisted door. Water does not need a large opening. It only needs one uneven sealing surface. If a heavy steel door warps during welding, the latch will not compress the gasket evenly. The result is slow water entry near the buyer-installed power modules and control electronics.

For enclosure-shell projects, MSTFAB reviews gasket channel geometry, door return flanges, hinge position, latch compression, rain lips, coating allowance and weld sequence before cutting metal. The goal is simple: the door needs to close squarely before anyone talks about sealing performance.
The Base Frame: Where Outdoor Corrosion Often Starts
The bottom of a floor-standing outdoor cabinet is not glamorous. It is also where many field problems begin.
The base area faces standing water, dust buildup, installation scratches, anchor stress and handling damage. If the base frame is treated like a generic bracket, corrosion can start before the charger is even fully deployed.

For outdoor EV charging cabinet shells, buyers should confirm the base material, weld access, drain strategy, mounting hole protection, coating pretreatment and packing method. Galvanized steel, stainless steel or coated carbon steel can all be valid choices, but the decision should match the working environment and the buyer’s installation method.
Thermal Management vs. Rain Protection
If the enclosure shell traps heat, component reliability suffers. If the drawing solves heat by opening large holes everywhere, driving rain and road dust can enter the cabinet.
A sealed cabinet with no thermal plan is not well protected. It is a warm metal room for expensive electronics. A practical enclosure shell needs a balanced plan for louvers, vent covers, fan/filter openings, air path, service access and water exclusion.

MSTFAB fabricates these ventilation and cable-entry features into the shell before coating. Laser-cut openings, CNC-bent louvers, gland plates and removable covers are checked as sheet metal features. Your engineering team then installs the thermal components, filters, fans or charging internals according to your own system design.
Cable Pulling, Brackets and Public Durability
People pull cables aggressively. People bump into cabinets. Public charging equipment lives in a world where optimism is not a mechanical property.
Cable holder brackets, plug holsters, mounting rails and heavy interface points should be reviewed as structural metal parts. For enclosure-shell manufacturing, the key question is not whether the charger looks good in a render. The question is whether the cabinet body can hold the buyer-defined hardware locations after welding, coating, packing and installation.

MSTFAB can fabricate welded brackets, rails, studs, PEM hardware locations, grounding tabs and gland plates according to customer drawings. We do not provide the charging cable, plug, connector or electrical assembly.
Outdoor Enclosure Risk: Job-Shop Shortcut vs. Fabrication Standard
| Outdoor enclosure risk | Cheap job-shop shortcut | MSTFAB enclosure-shell standard |
|---|---|---|
| Gasket compression | Welds the door without fixture control. Door twist creates uneven gasket compression. | Reviews flange design, weld sequence, door flatness, latch positions and gasket contact before production. |
| Cable entry corrosion | Drills or grinds cable holes after coating, leaving raw edges exposed outdoors. | Laser-cuts and deburrs gland openings before pretreatment, coating and inspection. |
| Public durability | Treats cable brackets and holsters as thin add-on accessories. | Fabricates buyer-defined brackets, rails and welded interfaces as part of the cabinet structure. |
| Thermal and rain balance | Adds large openings without a rain path, service plan or filter access. | Manufactures louver panels, vent covers, fan plates and removable filters according to the approved enclosure design. |
| Export shipping | Wraps a powder-coated cabinet like a light parcel and hopes the finish survives. | Uses film, foam, blocking and crate-level packing for enclosure shells, doors, panels and hardware. |
Clear Scope Builds Procurement Trust
MSTFAB’s manufacturing scope is enclosure only. We fabricate the physical sheet metal enclosure structure to your drawings: cabinet body, doors, internal mounting plates, gland plates, brackets, hinges, studs, louver panels, mechanically assembled housing and export packing.
We review manufacturability, then cut, bend, weld, finish, inspect and pack the shell. We do not manufacture EV charging modules, power electronics, charging software, payment systems, wiring harnesses or the completed charging station.
You bring the EV charging design and internals. We build the metal structure that helps you mount, wire, service and deploy it more reliably.
