CUSTOM ENCLOSURE FABRICATION

A traffic control cabinet protects signal controllers, power units, and communication modules from weather, heat, and vandalism. MSTFAB manufactures custom empty traffic control sheet metal cabinet shells built to your exact roadside infrastructure requirements.

Why Custom Fabrication for Traffic Cabinets?

Roadside equipment lives outdoors. A standard electrical box will quickly fail under direct sun, heavy rain, or corrosive road salt. A custom fabricated empty shell ensures your traffic control infrastructure survives the elements.

Weatherproof Structure

Sloped roofs, drip edges, and protected door seams prevent water ingress during heavy storms.

Cable & Conduit Entry

Custom bottom gland plates and conduit access points prevent messy field wiring and cable bending stress.

Thermal Management

Stamped louvers, fan cutouts, and double-wall designs must be planned early to prevent electronics from overheating.

Roadside Durability

Heavy-duty hinges, reinforced base structures, and outdoor-grade powder coating protect against vandalism and rust.

Manufacturing Route for Traffic Cabinet Shells

Our fabrication process integrates DFM review, precise laser cutting, structural welding, and rigorous outdoor sealing inspection to ensure the empty cabinet perfectly accommodates your ITS equipment.

1. DFM ReviewReview 3D CAD files for conduit layouts, gasket channels, and anchor hole alignment.
2. Laser CuttingCut precise cable glands, louvers, and HMI cutouts before any surface treatment.
3. Structural WeldingWeld reinforced base plinths and internal brackets to handle roadside vibrations.
4. Surface FinishApply outdoor-grade powder coating over galvanized or stainless steel to prevent rust.

Critical Quality Control Gates

We check structural rigidity, base anchor alignment, IP gasket sealing, powder coating coverage, and door fitment before the empty shell leaves our factory.

Base Anchor Alignment

A cabinet that does not align with the concrete foundation creates immediate installation trouble. We verify anchor hole tolerances.

Conduit Access

Poor cable entry causes messy assembly. We verify that all bottom cutouts match your power and signal routing layout.

Door & Gasket Fitment

A service door that sags will break the IP seal. We test heavy-duty hinges and lock compression.

Coating Adhesion

Roadside cabinets face salt and pollution. We test powder coating adhesion and thickness rigorously.

Material Choices for Traffic Cabinets

MaterialBest UseBuyer Check
Galvanized SteelStandard traffic signal cabinets and roadside ITS enclosures.Requires proper outdoor-grade powder coating and edge protection.
AluminumLightweight pole-mounted traffic control boxes and camera enclosures.Check material thickness and stiffness for vandalism resistance.
Stainless SteelCoastal traffic cabinets, harsh winters (road salt), and NEMA 4X projects.Confirm grade (304/316) and passivation requirement.

What to include in a Traffic Cabinet RFQ

Provide these details to ensure an accurate quotation for your custom metal shell:

  • 3D STEP model and 2D PDF drawing.
  • Material grade and sheet thickness.
  • Required IP or NEMA design target.
  • Internal mounting plate layout.
  • Thermal plan (louvers, fans, double-walls).
  • Conduit plate and bottom cable entry design.
  • Base mounting and anchor hole requirements.
  • Door, hinge, lock, and handle specs.

Frequently asked questions

What does MSTFAB actually manufacture for traffic systems?

We manufacture the physical empty sheet metal cabinet, doors, panels, mounting plates, cable entry plates, brackets, and base frames. We do NOT supply traffic controllers, signals, or software.

Can you make weatherproof outdoor traffic cabinets?

Yes. Outdoor traffic cabinet shells can be fabricated with rain hoods, drip edges, gasketed doors, and outdoor-grade powder coating based on your drawings.

What drawings are needed for quotation?

A 3D STEP file and 2D PDF drawing are required. The drawings must clearly show the material, thickness, conduit layout, cable entry, ventilation, and hardware requirements.

Do you provide traffic management software or wiring?

No. We are purely a custom sheet metal fabrication factory. Electronic systems, signal timing, and software are entirely outside our scope.
