Electrical Cabinet Shell RFQ: 12 Drawing Inputs

ELECTRICAL CABINET SHELL RFQ

A useful electrical cabinet shell quotation needs more than an outside size. The fabricator must understand the equipment layout, functional datums, door and panel interfaces, cable entries, ventilation openings, hardware, grounding provisions, finish and inspection requirements.

The 12 Inputs That Make an RFQ Quotable

1-3. Files and revision

STEP model, controlled 2D drawing and one named revision for quotation.

4-6. Material and finish

Grade, thickness, coating system, color, texture and visible faces.

7-9. Interfaces

Mounting datums, hardware schedule, cable and cooling component drawings.

10-12. Acceptance

Quantity, CTQs or FAI plan, and packing or destination requirements.

Control Door, Panel and Hardware Fit Together

Specify hinge and latch part numbers, opening angle, tool clearance, panel removal path, grounding hardware and gasket interface. Cutout size alone does not prove that a component can be installed, operated and serviced. Trial fit or gauge checks should use the approved hardware where function depends on it.

Mechanical hardware can be included when the part number, installation method and acceptance rule are controlled.

Keep Environmental Claims With the Completed Configuration

A cabinet shell can include gasket lands, compression latches, gland plates, filtered openings and mounting provisions. These features support the buyer’s design, but they do not automatically establish IP, NEMA, UL or EMC compliance. State the target, applicable standard, completed configuration and responsible test party.

A test applies to the defined sample and configuration; it is not a blanket claim for every cabinet using similar metalwork.

Buyer Trust Table

Supplier statementEvidence to requestBuyer value
“Precision cabinet”Drawing-specific CTQs, datums and inspection methodDefines precision for the actual assembly
“Hardware ready”Controlled part numbers and finished-condition fit checkReduces installation surprises
“IP65 design”Applicable standard, completed configuration and test ownerPrevents an unsupported shell-level rating claim
“Turnkey”Written scope matrix for metalwork, components, wiring and validationMakes responsibility visible

Frequently Asked Questions

What tolerance can MSTFAB hold on an electrical cabinet?

Capability depends on material, size, geometry, process route, datum scheme and inspection method. Critical requirements should be reviewed from the drawing.

Does MSTFAB provide UL 508A certification?

MSTFAB supplies drawing-defined metalwork. Completed-panel listing or certification remains with the responsible panel builder and applicable certification program.

Can electrical components be included?

The standard scope is empty metalwork and specified mechanical hardware. Any additional component scope must be explicitly quoted and approved.
